Ladd's Addition Cedar Restoration
Selective replacement of 40% of original cedar bevel siding, with hand-matched profiles milled locally so the repair reads as original.
The brief
The owners wanted the original cedar bevel siding kept wherever it could be saved. Roughly 40 percent had failed at the south and west elevations where sprinkler overspray had been hitting the wall for a decade.
Matching the original
We pulled a sample board and had matching clear vertical-grain cedar milled locally to the original profile, then back-primed every piece before it went on the wall.
Behind the siding we added a weather-resistive barrier and furring strips so the assembly can now dry outward — the detail that was missing in 1911 and the reason the wall failed at all.
